An individual’s actions will be guided by ethics in order to maintain morality.

Ethics, which is the will to do the right thing, regardless of the consequences, and without evaluating its impact on society, is in essence the will to act morally.

This paper seeks to understand why ethical considerations matter in the age criminal justice.

Does it concern the due process?

Or is it about discretion

Do you think it is about discretion or using force?

Or how ethics, morality and the way people behave can affect the way they act.

The paper discusses the importance of critical thinking regarding the relationship between professional behavior ethics.

A seminar on ethics training is suggested by the paper to law enforcement officers.

In the, the five aspects of ethical conduct will be highlighted.

The paper explains the reasons why these areas were chosen, and the possible benefits.

Relationship between moral behavior and ethics

Braswell McCarthy & McCarthy (2017) found that law enforcement is the only profession in which ethical considerations are most demanded.

Society places a lot of importance on the different roles within criminal justice.

The foundation of criminal justice is ethics.

It aids professionals in developing the foundation on which criminal activity is defined.

Maxfield & Babbie (2014) say that the criminal justice system can only be effective if it follows ethical behavior principles.

Reiman & Leighton (2015) show that professional behavior can be directly affected by the moral principles a person adopts in relation to his or her work.

It would be extremely difficult to discover the flaws in actions that are based solely on ethical considerations.

Albanese (2015) argues that there is no perfect act, since criticism always prevails in society.

People involved in criminal justice must choose the best course of action, based on their situation.

Professional behavior and ethics are closely linked in the criminal justice system.

These guidelines are what one must follow to have a moral conduct acceptable to society. If ethics are not followed by criminal justice professionals, they will not be able provide guidance on how to behave morally, especially when faced with ethical dilemmas.

Each officer must be aware that they live in a fishbowl. Their actions are not only observed by their relatives, friends, or neighbors when they are off duty, but also how they behave within the society.

Cole, Smith & DeJong (2015) found that the society frequently criticizes law enforcers more than any other professional in its society. The society waits for opportunities to identify and highlight mistakes made by these officers.

This may be human nature, or the society’s need for strong leaders.

This is why law enforcement officers are expected to be above reproach in respect to their professional as well as private rights.

There are many terms that can be used to define the meaning and purpose of ethics.

Values represent the ideas, actions and behaviors that are most important for the society.

They are those things that are worth fighting and giving up for. Values form the basis of understanding.

Values are the base of the understanding system.

Integrating ethics into law enforcement officers’ behavior is one way to achieve values.

Critical Thinking: Role

Griffiths (2014) said that critical thinking plays a crucial role in the observations of ethics related to the behavior and conduct of law enforcement officers.

As a type of analysis that determines facts vs. fictions, critical thinking can be described as “critical thinking”. This is how you come to an understanding.

The ability to make an informed decision is possible when critical thinking is applied within a positive mindset.

There are good chances that the variables can be eliminated and the simple truth can be revealed. This will allow you to make the right decision.

To be truly ethical, one must possess an analytical mind. It is human nature to not remember and to use a thinking system that is self-sufficient in order to reap personal benefits.

There are a number of questions that must be answered in order to pass the critical thinking test. They consist of either “yes” or “no”.

The questions are successive and assist law enforcement officers in making the right decision.

A few key questions to consider in critical thinking are: is the action legal? Is it morally acceptable? Are there better alternatives? And, can the decision be justified when it’s subject to public scrutiny (Pollock (2014)).

Seminar on the Five Areas of Ethical Conduct

The paper proposes a seminar to be held for law enforcement officials on ethics training.

The training will be provided in the following five areas.

The first is to train law enforcement officers in ethics and promotion.

It is vital that officers in law enforcement understand why certain ethical standards have been established and are explained to them when they join the system.

Every law enforcement officer should promote ethics whenever they can.

Not only must the promotion be limited to police academy but also any other sector that may be influenced or impacted by them.

The integrity of law enforcement officers towards their actions is the next area to be considered in ethical conduct.

As mentioned above, law enforcement officers have the highest ethical standards. They must demonstrate a high degree of integrity towards all their actions.

Integrity in ethics can also be described as having strong moral principles, and acting honestly.

In other words, integrity will help ensure that critical thinking is implemented correctly if it’s observed.

The code of ethic is the third area that law enforcement officers should be aware when it comes ethical conduct.

The code is a written list of principles, which is used within law enforcement agencies.

Officers need to refer to the system whenever they have questions about how to behave or react to certain ethical dilemmas.

In order to have a proper morale-based behavior, all officers must be able to base their decisions as much as possible on the code.

The fourth area that is important in ethics and which has been chosen to train law enforcement officers, is kindness.

Kindness is essential to build a relationship. The law enforcement officers should establish a positive working relationship with the society.

Kindness promotes humble behavior and raises critical thinking to improve moral decision making.

Officers in law enforcement must receive training regarding the introduction of tests to enhance their ethical conduct.

These tests involve the critical thinking test. This involves asking questions and assessing oneself before taking any action.

Another way to evaluate an officer’s actions is through the media test. The test involves asking questions about how people would respond to the action, and then analyzing the results.

The gut test is a method that determines if an action feels wrong. (Siegel, Worrall, 2014).

Conclusion

Conclusion: It is clear that ethics and moral behavior are interrelated.

Moral behavior and ethics influence individual actions and stop individuals from acting selfishly.

As role models to others, law enforcement officers are the most important beneficiaries of ethical behavior.

For a person to have the ability to critically think about their own behavior and to see it as morally correct, they must first be open to critical thinking.

Critique helps law enforcement officers assess their actions by asking different questions. This greatly increases their accountability.
