Dorothy Vaughn had to make a difficult decision to leave her family to work in another city for a dream job. What are the causes for why someone would do something like this? Introduction Paragraph (Essay Paragraph #1)

 

1.      Write a hook for your paper. It must be related to the thesis and fully developed.  Choose 1 of the following options.  Do not use more than 1 type of hook. One is enough.

Hook Choices:

Hidden figures have been considered human computers following their great achievements in the Lunar Mission. Their achievement sends a great message to girls and women that their intelligence and resilience are significant and always present.

2.      Write one sentence or some transition that connects the hook to your thesis.

 

This way, different factors could have motivated some individuals like Dorothy Vaughn to leave home to work in the city.

3.      Write your thesis statement in one sentence, whichshould includethe topic + your opinion about it + two reasons (one for each body paragraph in the body)

1.      This is the first REASON why the point in your thesis is correct.

 

    • Use this sentence to help you write your own. Then after you do that, take off the part that is underlined and leave what you wrote.

 

The main reason people leave their family to work in the city is because of the family’s financial status.

2.      Give your first supporting point to prove that the idea in the topic sentence is true. Transition to that point by using one of the following.

First, when the family is poor, everyone in it is going through some financial constraints. This may force some of the family members, more so the educated ones, to look for greener pasture in the city, where opportunities are many.

 

3.      Explain your point with an example or other evidence. Please only use examples from your own first-person experiences in life OR an example from the story Hidden Figures that relates to this idea—transition to this example by using a transition word that signals example. Use one of the options below.

For example, as I was growing up, my father had to leave my family in the countryside to go work in the city. It was not his wish to leave his family and spend a significant part of his life alone in the city. Because he had to alleviate the problems that faced our family, he had to leave.

Second, some people have more financial obligations than others within the family settings. This means they are expected to look for jobs to contribute to the welfare of the family. This could mean working in another country in order to meet the family needs.

For instance, my father is the sole provider in our family because my mother is a housewife. This leaves him the sole obligation of providing for us all. Since there were no job opportunities in our home area, he had to move away from his family.

6.               You could use one more supporting point, or you could move on to the next paragraph. 2-3 points for each body paragraph is a good amount of support.

 

7.      Conclude the paragraph byrestating the topic sentence in different

words.Transition to the conclusion using one of the following transition

In summary, the financial obligations make people leave their family for the city. Furthermore, when one is the family breadwinner, it becomes easy to make such a decision to alleviate the other members’ lives.

First, the cities have more career opportunities and better jobs than the rural areas. This makes people leave their families and seek job opportunities elsewhere. A career is an important part of life that every individual wish to pursue. It might not be possible to work within one’s home area, which leaves people with choices to go elsewhere to work for a dream company.

For instance, I have seen several individuals from my community move to the city to work for their dream organization within their profession. In this case, they consider their career as part of their bigger achievements.

Second, the family members tend to be supportive in one’s career. They expect one to leave and pursue the career and probably start another life. This is because the parents are always supportive, and they want thebest for their children.

For instance, my parents have made huge sacrifices to ensure that I am successful in my career. They have taken me to expensive schools to see me pursue my dreams and eventually become successful.

To conclude, pursuing one’s career is one of the greatest goals in life. People move to different parts of the country to pursue career goals and look for better opportunities and better jobs. This is usually a great step towards the achievement of one’s career goal.

 

 

 

 

Conclusion Paragraph (Essay Paragraph #4)

All of the ideas in your conclusion should relate back to the point of your essay.

 

1.   Restate your thesis statement from the introduction paragraph but in different words.

 

·         Transition to your conclusion by using one of these transitions:

·         In summary . . .

·         For these reasons. . .

 

In summary, people leave their families to go work in the city because of financial constraints in the family, chasing career dreams, and looking for better jobs and opportunities. This enables them to become successful, which would otherwise be impossible within one’s home area. This supports the decision by individuals like Dorothy to leave the family to work in the city.
